Chapter 13: Siblings Insight

It was nice big lawn of Meera’s house. Yash was busy in some surgery today and later he came for an hour and leave for Doctor’s conference in Pune.

Both siblings had good time to discuss several issues of Family, top being Geet. It’s not that they did not consider Yash as part of family. Yash would always stand as support for family.

Meera and Yash had natural click. They gave proper importance to each other as well as much needed space, for their profession and family. But both knew, other would be standing for each other anytime.

Meera had met Yash in her second year of B.Com. They have met at party in her best friend’s house. Yash was best friend of her best friend’s brother. In first party itself they have gelled. Then they started finding reason to meet and then when Meera was in final year, Yash proposed.

Both Family agreed and marriage happened just after Meera’s graduation. Meera’s family was happy, at least one person in the family will get her happiness. Passion was high and thus she was mother of four-year-old in her five-year-old marriage.

After Maan had left them due to reason no one wanted to even think about, family condition had started falling from all side.

“What are you thinking”

“Same that you are thinking. But I will see off Yash and then we can catch up.”

Meera came after sending off Yash and both siblings sat for light snack and coffee.

“Veerji, I am very worried about Geet”

“Actually. The way she had led a life on penance from last 7 years and then her sudden becoming hyper after getting appointment letter. I am really worried for this girl”

“But Veerji, I think her penance has made her strong. The saintly quiet life that she had led, she will handle any shock. But her guilt. She needs to talk to him. Guilt had overtaken her after that incident. 1st year of his gone, she had madly been waiting for him to show up and she pour her guilt of whatever happened that party day.”

“It took her an year to realize he is actually not coming back. After that the Geet I have seen has pained and scared me.”

“What do you think Veerji, will she be able to handle a completely different Maan. We don’t know who is in his life and what is his priority. If she is nowhere in his list. She has been ranting Maan is mine, after appointment letter”

“I think she will handle. It will pain her but though she keeps saying Maan is hers. Maan is hers or not, I never knew but she is always Maan’s. Only his. And after this guilt, all she will do is his happiness. I am scared for her as well as Maan. But he was always strong.”

Meera changed the topic, little offset

“Yash has been so confused, seeing Geet buy those expensive shopping. He has only seen saint and studious Sali Sahiba. Little does he know.”

“What about Dad Veerji. What is doctor saying. Any hope of improvement?”

“Yes hope is there Meera. The treatment, though may be extensive and involving, means overflow of money. Kaise hoga”

Meera stayed quiet for a while but then seeing dad in such condition pained them

“Veerji wohh.. I know it is so selfish but wohh… I mean Maan. Dad ke liye bas”

“No way Meera. How can you even think?”

“It will just be like snapping fingers for him”

“Noooo. Keep him away. Out of all, how could you Meera??”

“Sorry Veerji”

Brij stayed with Meera that day as she had to leave early for office and Adi would be needed to be dropped bit late. Brij will handle that.

In London, at Geet’s hotel room. Geet was sitting idle for an hour now on the same sofa couch of hotel studio room. It had been such tough day and path ahead was going to be even tough for her. Facing a distant Maan was much harder than staying away from him. It felt like innumerable needles pricked in her heart.

Geet remembered her office event of first day. After their meeting, Geet and Anwesha did their documentation formality. Anwesha did not need it but Maan wanted her to know each step of growth as he has big plans for his sister. Growing through small process will only make her more understanding towards other employees need.

Then they were sent to training center, where only introductions happened with trainers. Geet realized, Anwesha did not even know who Geet was. She was not even once shocked by her name. Means – Maan had not even considered mentioning her to his family. It pained as she realized, he has kept her out of his life completely. She was nowhere any part of his life. He was new man with new life where she did not exist. And his today’s demure clearly told, that’s what he wants.

“But he loved me, right?” she kept thinking

“or maybe not. He never confessed but he did. Antways, I do. Maan is part of me, yes he is” she curled her knees and held them with her arms encircled around them

“But Geet, you are nowhere in his life. Nowhere… nowhere” it pained so badly, he has thrown her out of his life. It was not easy for her to believe but it was the fact.

Geet got up and washed her face. Got something from fridge to cook simple meal for herself. From last seven years, Geet has lived the life of penance. After a year of restlessness, when the realization dawned on her, that he was gone forever, she has placed all blame on herself and then started her life of penance.

She had studied hard, to get best result as that is what Maan would have wanted her to do. She stopped all her romantic adventure, completely avoiding any such discussion with anyone, even for small joke she would avoid those talk. If not Maan then why should she even care of such side. It didn’t exist for her, if he was not there.

Her dressing became sober as her thought process changed, though style just came out to her. Party, friends all she had cut herself. Study and remembering Maan was all she had done for last seven years. And forgetting her and throwing her out of his life is the first thing he had done after leaving her.

Geet got call from Meera

“Hi Di” Meera could sense lowness in Geet’s voice, her heart sank. She tried to divert

“How was your first day of job”

“Nice Di. Fresh joiner like me got to meet with the super boss of company. What charisma he has Di.” Meera could sense deep pain in Geet. Geet who was so excited to meet Maan is not saying his name but she has also been thinking of Maan.

“Ok. Work good and make your Boss happy with your work”

“Di he will not have time to review my work. He is whole show runner of the company and I am fresher. Any ways we have training for two months before we start on work. Me and other fresher, Anwesha Khurana.”

“Annie?”

“Hmm… Di she does not even know any Geet Handa” Geet’s voice was calm but tears were simply rolling down her eyes.

Meera could feel Geet’s pain but then she also knew that Maan had done exactly what Brij and she wanted him to. Move forward.

In Khurana Mansion

“BHAII”

“hmm, how was your first day” he said casually giving her side hug.

“Met my terror Boss”

“Shaitan” he hit her head slightly

“Just got introduction of training session today and made new friend”

“New Friend?”

“Hmm… the new joinee, forgot you fixed us together in the training. That Geet Handa”

“First day and you made friends with her? I suggest, keep only peer relation until you know someone well”

“Okay Okay” and Anwesha ran to her room. And then got busy with her friends. All excited about her first day of work.

Maan had placed Annie with Geet in training as that was beforehand planned. But his brotherly instinct got alert. His sister was naïve and in no case he wanted it to be hampered by anyone.

Other, he did not know reason of Geet’s appearance and he could not bear Geet using Annie as ladder to reach him, whatever her reason may be.
